Print Day in May this Saturday at WYPW!

West Yorkshire Print Workshop will be participating in the international event Print Day in May on Saturday 7th May and we invite the community in Kirklees and beyond to join us in our celebrations.

'Print Day in May' takes place on the first Saturday of the month and began in California, USA, in 2007. It has seen participation grow across the world each year now people get together in the U.S., Australia, India, Argentina, Mexico and across Europe in
order to make and celebrate the art of printmaking. It's a day to get together in studios across the world to make prints.

Here at WYPW we will be hosting a variety of activities, Throughout the day for adults and children. This is an ideal opportunity to explore the building and find out what goes on at WYPW - the artists who work here, the courses we offer; the art gallery, craft shop and the wonderful printmaking facilities.

The day's activites will include:

Open Studios

Come meet our resident artists and take a peek inside their studios! Find out what they are working on at the moment.

Drop-in Screen Printing Activity

For £5 you can have a go at screen-printing, and take away a set of greeting cards, printed by your very own hands, to send to friends and family.

Printmaking Demonstration

Ever wanted to get to grips with etching processes? Down in our print room studio-holder Jenny Thomas will be happy to show you how its done!

Book Launch and Signing

WYPW member Saba Rifat has just published 'Geometric Skies- an art activity book inspired by Islamic patterns. She will be selling signed copies and running a drop-in workshop for families.

Process and Practice art exhibition

The gallery will be showing the final day of our studio holders exhibition, including drawings, prints, handmade books and sculpture.
