Natural Forms in Lino-Etching - Printmaking Demo Session

For our May Printmaker’s Toolkit Session, we welcome our very own Fabian Matthias Osborne! Fabian graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a degree in 3-d design, where he specialised in ceramics. Since starting work at WYPW, he has been experimenting with lino-etching in his ‘night owl’ print sessions with fellow printmaker Jenny Thomas, to create his stunning prints, finding similarities in his approaches his printmaking and his ceramics. Come along for a demonstration of the techniques he uses and an insight into his artistic practice.

“I am fascinated by formations and the hidden patterns found within the landscape, both natural and manmade. This idea of shapes and surfaces constantly changing has led to my interest in weathering, especially erosion. Photography from visits to Anglesey and Scotland influence a lot of my decision making when it comes to what marks and patterns I create on my blocks. Lino etching has allowed me to replicate this natural process.”

These 1 hour morning sessions will focus on technique, practise and making, and will comprise of practical demonstrations and talks led by practising artists and printmakers. The sessions are intended to encourage, inspire, and generate ideas and conversation about printmaking, so don’t be afraid to ask questions! Both members and non-members are welcome to attend. If you are not a member, or indeed a printmaker, they can act as taster sessions to show you just what printmaking is all about. If you are a member, the sessions can offer valuable hints and tips to help further your printmaking practise, or introduce you to a new technique.
