This workshop is suitable for complete beginners, and will teach you the basics of monoprinting and drypoint printmaking. These two simple and quick techniques work nicely as separate techniques or in combination. There are numerous ways of creating a monoprint, (a unique, one-­off print), both with and without a press. You will be able to explore some technqiues such as roller work, fine line drawing, stencils, using textured papers, etc, alongside the basics of drypoint scratch work into plastic.

Cath Brooke is a Leeds based printmaker inspired by urban and industrial landscapes, many of which are based on sketches around the Redcar area, the North and South Gare and the recently closed steelworks. Her prints capture the industrial structures that define the area and that make it a unique and fascinating place for an artist to work. Many of Cath’s prints combine drypoint and monoprint methods. Cath has been a member at WYPW for many years and is a member of Inkers printmakers, a group originally formed at the print workshop to share ideas, exhibit together and promote print making in the region.
