Mokuhanga Taster – CREATE Workshop – February
Sat 9 February 2019
£40 - Day Workshop
11 - 3
Tutor: Kate Desforges
This short day workshop will give you a taster of 'Mokunhanga' Printmaking - the japanese method of water-based woodblock printing.
This technique was used by artists in Japan in the Edo period to make prints in the Ukiyo-e style, such as Hokusai’s famous ‘Great Wave’, and is still used by contemporary artists all over the world today. In this hands-on session you will be guided through carving a wood block using specialist tools, and printing your block by hand with watercolour paints. Learners will create a simple one or two colour image, and experiment with colour layering and inking techniques such as ‘bokashi’ (gradation).
