St Mary's Churchyard Conservation Event
If you have walked through St Mary’s Churchyard recently you will have noticed the restoration work currently taking place on the 12 chest tombs. This is part of a Watford Museum and Watford Borough Council Planning Department Heritage Lottery Fund project to restore the tombs and to explore the heritage of the key eighteenth and nineteenth Watford residents to whom the tombs belong.
The team carrying out the restoration work are from Sally Strachey Historic Conservation, experts in the conservation of historic buildings, monuments and sculpture. If you would like to find out more about the project and the specialist stone conservation works taking place, members of the team will be talking through some of the treatments they are completing on site at the churchyard.
The events will take place on Monday 5 August 2013 at 12.15pm and Tuesday 20 August 2013 at 6pm. The events are free to attend, please meet at the spiral sculpture in the churchyard 5 minutes before. For more information please contact Victoria or Sarah at Watford Museum 01923 232297.
