Session 1: Living Memories of St Albans School of Art (FREE)

UH Arts + Culture and St Albans Museum + Gallery are delighted to invite alumni, students and staff who were part of St Albans School of Art to the first Collections + Research Session as part of the Living Memories of St Albans School of Art project.

When: Wednesday 5 June, 17:30-19:00
Where: Art + Design Gallery, University of Hertfordshire, College Lane Campus
Entry: FREE
Booking Recommended: www.uharts.co.uk or RSVP to l.rolinson@herts.ac.uk

The project collects memories of their time at the art school to explore the school’s history and its place in the region’s culture.

St Albans School of Art was renamed Hertfordshire College of Art and Design in the 1970s and later merged with Hatfield Polytechnic. The institution is now known as University of Hertfordshire where the arts and humanities subjects are taught at the School of Creative Arts.

This is the first in a series of four events which encourages attendees to share and record their own memories of the school, and offers the opportunity to hear more from the project team.

The session will gather recollections from participants as we explore artworks in the University of Hertfordshire Art Collection from artists connected to the history of St Albans School of Art. Steven Adams, Associate Dean for Research at the School of Creative Arts, will also share insights into the how’s and why’s of academic research.

Please join us to:

• Explore the UH Art Collection
• Hear more about artists from St Albans School of Art
• Learn about academic research, and how you might undertake your own research
• Chat informally with project staff
• Meet others who attended the school

Anyone with associations with St Albans Art School are welcome to attend, including relations of those who were part of the school’s community. You don’t need to attend all the events or share stories – everyone is welcome.

Unable to attend but still want to get involved? Or are you interested in undertaking an oral history recording to share your memories? Please contact l.rolinson@herts.ac.uk
