A Curious Conversation – Lyndall Phelps
Artist Lyndall Phelps has been researching the origins of the Museum of St Albans, and in particular the objects that formed the first ever Museum display in 1898. Using these as her starting point, Phelps has created a pop-up museum, which showcases a range of historical objects alongside the artist’s own works made in response to the Museum display. Entitled ‘A Curious Conversation’, the pop-up museum launched at the University of Hertfordshire and has since toured various sites across St Albans. It will appear at the St Julians Church on Saturday 7 October.
Phelps is an artist whose work is strongly researched based and site specific. She is particularly interested in history and many of her past projects have been inspired by museum objects. From Roman brooch fragments to taxidermy and from Egyptian vessels to needlework, ‘A Curious Conversation’ displays objects referencing archaeology, art, natural history and social history.
