The Friends of Tolson Museum are celebrating the textile industry in Huddersfield with a special event, Weaver’s Work, on Sunday, 28 October, 11am to 4pm.
In the museum in Ravensknowle Park, Wakefield Road, Huddersfield, there will be spinning and weaving demonstrations, displays of work by students from Huddersfield University’s textile department and an opportunity to learn about local textile firms and to see some of the fabrics they currently make along with examples of local tailoring.
There will also be several stalls with artwork showing the creative use of textiles.
“The textile industry is intrinsic to the heritage of Huddersfield. The town was built on the success of its mills and it gained a worldwide reputation for producing cloth of the highest quality. This event is a celebration of the textile industry of the past, the present and the future,” commented Ann Denham, chair of the Friends.
Entry to the event is free. Refreshments will be available.
