Battle of the Ancre

In partnership with the Imperial War Museum, we are proud to present the powerful film: The Battle of the Ancre and the Advance of The Tanks (1917). A masterpiece of British non-fiction cinema, it shows the final stages of the Somme campaign on the Western Front. It features the first ever scenes of tanks in battle and the difficulties experienced by the British Army fighting on ground beset with mud. Digitally restored, the film is accompanied by Laura Rossi’s specially commissioned musical score.
