An alien from a planet that is dying for lack of water, arrives on Earth planning to ship some of the earth’s plentiful supply to his home. In human guise, and calling himself Thomas Jerome Newton, he uses his knowledge of unusual technologies, to become a financial & industrial tycoon. But instead of pressing forward with his plan to save his home planet, he becomes enamoured of Earth’s more ignoble customs, and an elevator operator named Mary Lou.
