Yehuda Inbar piano.
Liszt/Wagner Isolde’s Liebstod from Tristan und Isolde
Schubert Sonata in G major D.894
The young Haifa-born pianist Yehuda Inbar pairs two wonderfully transcendental, fluid piano works in his recital. Liszt was intimately acquainted with Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, having conducted the second public performance from the manuscript in 1859. With this masterful transcription of the yearning Liebestod, he creates textures shimmering with orchestral incandescence. Schubert’s great sonata in G major organically unfolds, from the first whispering, rocking chords to the folk music of the final movement. Schubert (and Beethoven) influenced Liszt’s compositions powerfully, in architectural ambition, melodic naturalness and deceptive simplicity, as well as deep spirituality. Be prepared to be transported for an hour.
