This historical drama traces an intimate portrait of the turbulent friendship between post-impressionist painter Paul Cézanne and novelist Émile Zola, from their first meeting as schoolmates in Aix-en-Provence. As working artists in Paris, their insecurities, complicated romantic lives and creative rivalry intensify as Zola begins to gain recognition for his writing, while fame and success continue to elude Cézanne.
