Galilei's Well Tempered Lute-Zak Ozmo

Galilei's Well Tempered Lute-Zak Ozmo

7.30pm
Tickets £12 | Under 18s £5

We are pleased to announce a revised date for this concert after an unfortunate postponement due to illness.

Vincenzo Galilei (c1520 - 1591), an Italian lutenist and composer, and father of the astronomer Galileo, was a crucial figure in musical development, and heavily influenced composers including Monteverdi, Caccini, and J.S. Bach.

This set of dances for solo lute in all 24 keys was published 138 years earlier than Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, and was one of the most influential collections of instrumental music in the late Renaissance. Žak will play a selection from Galilei’s Well Tempered Lute: his CD was released in February 2016.

Zak Ozmo is music director of L'Avventura London, a lutenist, and a scholar in historical performance. He took a doctorate at the University of Southern California, before postdoctoral study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. An expert on early plucked instruments, he has performed as a chamber musician and a soloist across Europe, North America, and Asia on the archlute, theorbo, Renaissance lute, and Baroque guitar.
