“Christina McMaster is a brilliant young pianist who creates exciting programmes which captivate audiences everywhere. She is not only a fiery virtuoso but a pianist gifted with a subtle, magical touch as well." Stephen Montague, New Music Associate & Curator
The brilliant young musician Christina McMaster presents an exhilarating programme of multimedia piano music. American experimentalists (Cage, Cowell, Ives, Stephen Montague) brush alongside Harrison Birtwistle, with brand new work composed by some of today’s most exciting young composers (Nico Muhly, Freya Waley Cohen, Hye Kyung Lee). Including film by the American avant-gardist Maya Deren, the concert culminates in Richard Bullen’s astonishing ‘dual’ work for Christina battling her filmed alter ego, in Theatre of Resonance.
John Cage Prelude for Meditation, A Flower, In a Landscape (accompanied by a Maya Deren film)
Nico Muhly Piano and Drones Parts II, III and IV
Freya Waley Cohen New work for piano and electronics
Henry Cowell Fairy Answer, Tides of Manaunan
Charles Ives The Alcotts (from the Concord Sonata)
