Hailed as ‘an instinctive collective’ (The Strad) the Berkeley Ensemble takes its name from two British composers of the last hundred years, father and son Sir Lennox and Michael Berkeley. It was formed in 2008 with the aim of exploring the wealth of little-known 20th and 21st century British chamber music alongside more established repertoire. It now enjoys a busy concert schedule, and is also much in demand for its inspiring work in education.
Their light, fresh programme explores shimmering colours of French music (Debussy and Poulenc), the witty and lyrical styles of the Berkley composers, and finishes with Mozart’s radiant and majestic masterpiece, the Quintet for Piano and Winds in E flat major K.452. Absolutely unmissable!
Debussy Syrinx for solo flute
Poulenc Trio for oboe, bassoon and piano
Lennox Berkeley Sonatine for clarinet and piano
Michael Berkeley Quintet: Catch Me If You Can
Mozart Quintet in E flat for Piano and Winds K.452
Part of the Dartington International Summer School 2015 concert and events programme.
