Tallis Sing and glorify heaven’s high majesty
“Earthrise is a fabulous, 40-part choral work with the sort of polychoral, lushly harmonised climaxes that send shivers down the spine” The Times.
Jeffrey Skidmore conducts a life-affirming, overflowing concert of English and Venetian early music, performed in the round. The audience will be surrounded by the Big Choir, singing Tallis’s amazing 40-part motet not once but twice, in Latin and in English. The programme includes Alec Roth’s astonishing hymn to the power of Nature, Earthrise, as well as Gabrieli’s most famous and brilliant work, In Eclesiis. Written for St Mark’s Basilica in Venice, musicians and singers would have been spatially arranged throughout the grand architecture; we will do the same in Dartington’s wonderful Great Hall!
Part of the Dartington International Summer School concert and event programme.
