DISS 2015: Bach and his soloist, Pisendel
Maggie Cole: harpsichord
Adrian Chandler: baroque violin
5.15pm
£8 / Under 16s £5
A wonderful combination of harpsichord virtuosity and unaccompanied Baroque violin, performed by two of the greatest-living exponents today. The G major Partita is one of the sunniest and most attractive of all of Bach’s substantial keyboard works, played here with stylish élan by the doyenne of early keyboard-playing, Maggie Cole. The violin virtuoso Adrian Chandler completes the concert with the powerful A minor sonata by the great 18th century violinist Pisendel, a close colleague of Bach and Telemann.
“Most remarkable of all is the Sonata in A minor, a truly virtuoso piece… It is given here in a quite breathtakingly effective performance by Adrian Chandler, whose effortless and stylish command of the writing brings Pisendel’s legendary abilities fully alive.” Gramophone Magazine, Awards Issue
