Mark Lockheart - saxophones/bass clarinet
Mark first came to prominence in the mid 1980s with the influential big band Loose Tubes. In 2003 Mark joined Seb Rochford’s Polar Bear. Two of the group’s albums were nominated for Mercury Awards: 'Held On The Tips Of Fingers ' in 2005 and ‘In Each And Every Way’ in 2013.
In 2013 Mark’s ‘Ellington In Anticipation’ was released to critical acclaim with BBC Music Magazine describing it as “Ellington for the 21st Century” and MOJO listing it as the best jazz album of 2013. In 2016 Mark was awarded JazzFM instrumentalist of the year.
John Ashton Thomas - keyboards
John works as a composer, arranger, orchestrator, conductor, pianist/keyboard player and teacher in the UK and the USA. Recently John has composed pieces for the choir of Temple Church, Eclectic Voices with the Martin Speake trio, and has written arrangements for Lang Lang and Nicola Benedetti.
Since 2001 he has worked in various roles on a wide range of film scores, from "Ice Age" 2, 3 and 4 to four of the "Bourne" series and the final installment of the "Twilight" series.
He has worked as an arranger or conductor for a number of well established singers, including Diana Ross and Michael Buble, and has composed dozens of pieces of production, Film, TV and concert music.
John was made an honorary associate of the Royal Academy of Music, London in 2004. He teaches composition at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and the Dartington International Summer School.
