Back down the Westhampnett Road
The finds from the Iron Age cemetery at Westhampnett are some of the most important prehistoric finds in our museum's collection and the site features in archaeology text books. When the cemetery was excavated before the Westhampnett Bypass was built in 1992, cremated bone could not be radiocarbon dated so the dating of the cemetery relied on comparisons with other sites. A radiocarbon dating project is now underway and the results will be announced for the first time in this talk with Dr Andrew Fitzpatrick. Find out if the archaeologists got it right, or will the text books need updating?
