Monica Ross presents Anniversary-An Act of Memory

Critically acclaimed artist Monica Ross will recite from memory the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The work is an act of witness as a method of drawing attention to the continuing need to re-iterate the importance of the Universal Declaration. Rather than the absence of mind associated with learning by rote, recitation by memory proposes the attempt to learn the Declaration by heart as a basis for developing presence of mind. It places an emphasis on the attempt and difficulty of meeting the Declaration’s call to constantly ‘keep it in mind’ and to voice or act on it – especially when under pressure.
