Stephen Cochrane Sculptor
Stephen has been stone carving/sculpting for many years. He works mainly in stone, and his work has been influenced by not only contemporary stone sculptors such Paula Haughney, but also earlier sculptors such as Eric Gill, as well as abstract artists such as Matisse and Mondrian. His other influences are the built environment of West Sussex, particular local Saxon and medieval churches and church sculpture. He carves and sculpts using mainly hand tools, and each piece is unique.
He has recently developed a range of items that are works of art in their own right, but also have a utilitarian function such as clocks and vases.
He works outdoors, when weather permits, in a small ‘courtyard’ at his home in the South Downs National Park.
