Standedge Tunnels Standedge Tunnels and Visitor Centre
Standedge Tunnels is a 200-year old, Grade II-listed site and is known as one of the wonders of the British waterways because it has the country’s highest, longest and deepest canal tunnel. Opened over 200 years ago, the construction of the tunnel represented industrial engineering at its finest, showing unprecedented technical ingenuity.
Visitors can explore deep into this amazing feat of engineering o one of the family-friendly guided boat trips, stop for a bite to eat at the Watersedge Café, take a walk along the nature trail or let the kids jump and climb on the outdoor play area.

Events run throughout the year and the huge warehouse can be hired for weddings or meetings.
Standedge Tunnels is owned and is run by the Canal & River Trust charity. The Canal & River Trust charity is the guardian of 2,000 miles of historic waterways across England and Wales, caring for the nation’s third largest collection of listed structures, as well as museums, archives, and hundreds of important wildlife sites.
