September Artists' Conversation at Torre Abbey with Lucy Cash

The second in our series of Open Dialogue conversations will take place next Thursday (25 September) in Torre Abbey's Learning Lab. Artist and film maker Lucy Cash, who recently undertook the first Artquest supported Foundling Museum residency, shares some work from her recent practice and considers strategies for making and collaborating in different kinds of contexts.

Cash comes from a background in performance and choreography and her practice involves an intimate, engaged and frequently playful process of research and collaboration. Using both documentary and associative processes she create accounts of the real world as well as self-contained fictions that augment, expand or reveal aspects of the world around us. These become small interventions between the poetic and scientific, philosophical and humorous and intimate and political. The work developed often includes processes that combine text and sound, installation and photography as well as film / video.

Her background in movement exploration and choreography provides her with a rich and unusual foundation from which to explore how we relate to one another, how we remember and forget and how we experience the world around us. In her own small way, she is committed to developing work that strengthens our capacity for empathy and understanding of both ourselves and others. Her range of experience offers her many different ways of relating to, and engaging with, the people and places she works with – whether they are participants in a shared creative process, or professionals from other disciplines. Her practice is nurtured by its diversity and as it develops and matures, she incorporates new ways of working with people that relate to her core foundation.
