For our next Smooth Space Artists' Conversation at Torre Abbey we will be talking to Simon Ryder.

From a medievel cathedral to a 1970s milking parlour, from the mudflats of the National Wetlands Centre, Wales to HMP The Verne, Simon has worked as artist-in-residence in a wide variety of locations around the country and abroad. For him the power of residencies lies in our releationship to individual places: as the author Robert MacFarlane put it, places "have long offered us keen ways of figuring ourselves to ourselves, strong means of shaping memories and giving form to thought". Simon will be in conversation about his latest residency, 'Passage' which took place at the prison/immigration removal centre The Verne, Portland, Dorset (commissioned for the 2014 b-side Festival).
