Active Art BGS350 at Parkfield
BGS350, The Torbay Urban Geology Residency is an Arts Council funded public art project for Torbay.
The project is culminating in 3 weekend events of live art in which drawings of birds from across the world will be placed onto 3 parks in Torbay: Parkfield (Paignton), Abbey Gardens (Torquay) and Torre Abbey (Torquay). All three locations lie at 5m above sea level.
The term 'climate change' feels detached from physical effects – things change, so what? Two of the many tangible consequences of climate change are sea level rise and mass extinction. David's artworks will depict birds from all around the world which are currently in danger of complete extinction (birds listed as Critically Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature). They will be painted on the ground at locations which are at 5m above sea level, drawing attention to what would also be lost in Torbay if the sea were to rise by 5m as a consequence of our changing climate.
