Unknowable Bodies
This print explores the naturally occurring cyclical repetition that exists in nature and also women’s bodies; and asks why they seem so problematic to the patriarchy which continues to suppress and defile these ‘unknowable bodies.’ Work began in July 2024 and it questions why the representation of certain female body parts are underrepresented in Art.
This is just one image from a larger body of work in which feminism intersects with society, ecology, the cosmos in their need for understanding. It blows out the water the idea of what a print should be.
This print combines print processes - the central apertures relates directly to the circular Eco-Prints that they pierce. The Eco Prints combines 250gsm cotton rag paper in tight, direct contact with natural flora - plants, leaves, buds, seeds - using heat and water to release pigment. The central part is a Photogravure etching depicting the fecund parts of plants.
