The Benign Indifference of Nature 2
“I laid myself open to the benign indifference of the universe.” - Albert Camus
Recently I have become increasingly aware of the complete indifference natural systems have towards mankind and our man-made problems.
Nature’s cycles and systems conduct their magnificent self-organisation according to their own rhythms and methods, not ours. They will continue their existence whether they share this planet with us, or not. And indeed, their continued success would be greatly improved if we humans hadn’t made such a mess of our custodianship of the planet.
Walking through a nearby field after harvest I saw many beautiful, circular spider’s webs in the hedgerow filled with tiny golden shreds of wheat. This is my interpretation of that wonderful and natural decoration.
