The centuries-old techniques of rug hooking have been adapted for modern times to create colourful textured artworks. This has elevated the craft of rug hooking to a contemporary art form.
Nan Millette has lived in the UK for 22 years. She has been a fibre artist since 2012, participating in online and in-person workshops to learn the craft. She has exhibited in several small shows in Nova Scotia, curated by Brant Eisner, and her work was recently exhibited in Halifax, Nova Scotia, as part of an Age of Aquarius craft show as well as a solo exhibition "Home is Where the Hearth is" at Artistsmeet, in Rickmansworth. She is involved with UK craft groups, is a member of TIGHR (The International Guild of Handhooking Rugmakers) and Craft Nova Scotia. She enjoys being inspired by others to create new ways of working in the fibre arts, using recycled materials whenever possible, in her hand-hooked rugs, wall art and cushions.
Nan's designs and hooked works tell her stories. Life is a journey, of stories told in the things we do, the crafts we make and the rugs we hook, carrying ancient and modern techniques into 21st century storytelling.
