Reading the South
Reading the South is a project run in collaboration with East Sussex and West Sussex libraries, supported by Creatives Across Sussex, encouraging people to explore what the south means to them.
The counties of East and West Sussex, renowned for the natural beauty of the South Downs and coastline as well as their proud history and heritage, are home to a diverse mix of rural and urban communities. Life in Sussex has been celebrated in books, plays and films through the ages, but how do they inspire contemporary authors in their writing?
This three month project aims to explore that sense of identity through the work of a number of contemporary authors, who either live in the South or have been influenced by the region in their work.
