A Whale Story - Paignton College on Tour
Paignton Community & Sports College Sixth Formers studying Drama, Physics and Biology will be collaborating on a project this Spring that will unite the subjects for audiences in Torbay. A Whale Story, a creative and practical exploration of marine life cycles, will be a performance to remember. With live theatre, dance and storytelling combined with hands-on science demonstrations - this really is a piece not to be missed. If you would like your Primary School or local Torbay venue to see or host the project, please contact Advanced Skills Teacher, Jessica Hunter, at Paignton Community & Sports College on 01803 403005.
Paignton Community & Sports College’s Drama and Science Departments have collaborated to produce a touring performance based on marine life cycles, “A Whale Story”.
The Performance piece includes Drama, Music and Dance, as well as live Science demonstrations and
hands-on experiments, including audience participation. The piece will be presented by Sixth Form Drama, Physics and Biology students, who will show the audience the links between creative expression and scientific thinking.
The aim of the tour is to promote a love of the arts and science, as well as address the QCDA initiative for cross-curricular and transitional creative projects, that will encourage engagement and commitment to learning. By bringing the performance out into the community, we will also be adapting learning strategies to suit the local environment.
The performance is versatile, approximately 40 minutes in duration, and can be presented to any age group. The performance requires enough space to allow 12 performers to move in, as well as access to an electrical point. It could be performed in a foyer, dining hall, reception area, garden, conference room, gym, patio or entrance hall. If you would like “A Whale Story” to visit your venue in 2010, please contact Jessica Hunter on 01803 403005. The project has been funded by Torbay LA and Business Enterprise, and so we only ask hosts to make a voluntary contribution to cover travel and accommodation expenses where possible.
