It’s the East End of 1960’s London. The dance hall is buzzing with Jive, sharp suits & 50's frocks.
Director Gary Sefton re-imagines Don Taylor's translation of this Greek masterpiece in the world of the dance hall. Into this setting, Antigone, whose brothers fight to the death over the throne of Thebes, and whose uncle, Creon, takes over the sovereignty of the city and buries one brother with a hero’s funeral - but casts out the other as a traitor and leaves his body unburied. Antigone sees it as her duty to give her brother the dignity of a proper burial, but Creon declares that anyone disobeying his orders will be punished by death…
West Sussex County Youth Theatre has been running for 22 years. One of the last remaining County Council funded youth theatres, the company have toured locally, nationally and internationally and gained much critical acclaim. The company ethos is to marry the best professional theatre practitioners with developing young actors. In this case, an ensemble of young people who have finished their exams on route to applying for university and drama school training.
