Jack Fear Jazz Composer Arranger comes to MusicPEG
Jack fear - here comes the oracle!
jack fear, alto, tenor and baritone saxophonist, clarinetist, flautist, oboist, pianist, composer and arranger.
the eighty three year old walking encyclopedia of big-band musicianship will be taking the workshop on november 3rd. jack will be bringing an arrangement of 'the preacher' that he is doing especially for us. he will also be passing on some tips about how to play as a 'section player' i.e. a player that doesn't have the tune, so articulation and listening as well as sight-reading accuracy and dynamics will be the focus. jack has played for the bbc, with the syd lawrence orchestra (and many others like it) and in the scary world of the theatre pit orchestra where visiting acts expect perfect sight reading with the bare minimum of rehearsal.... bare minimum if you are lucky that is! more recently he was baritone saxophonist and arranger for the torquay based 'tour-de-force' big band which featured stunning musicians from all over the south west. his cd of his work with the 'bristol schools big-band' reveals an ensemble jack rehearsed to a stunningly high standard. the link gives some idea of the control and precision required for section work -
