Rethinking the Piazza
1800 - 1900, Wednesday, 7 October 2020. In collaboration with Same Skies Think Tank, this is a walk-and-talk, socially distanced outdoor event.
Following the example set by citizen-led arts organisations in Huddersfield (The Making Space and Unnaway, working with New River, the owners of the Packhorse centre), the council has opened up the empty shop units it now owns to a variety of Kirklees based arts and cultural organisations.
This has quickly led to a wide range activities happening in the empty shops, which suggests there was an unmet need for the kind of spaces provided by the Piazza.
Taking a stroll around the crescent of the Piazza, stopping off to listen to some of the people who have organised events in the empty shops, and talking about how we learn from what has been happening.
Any interesting conclusions from the discussion can feed into AMP, short for Alternative Manifesto Process, which aims to amp up the voices of citizens in West Yorkshire, and generate new ideas for the first West Yorkshire mayor, to be elected in May 2021. https://www.thestateofthearts.co.uk/features/can-we-amp-up-west-yorkshire/
