Wagner Rienzi Overture Klaus Tennstedt London Philharmonic

A taste of one of the two Wagner pieces being played by the Orchestra of Opera North at the opening concert of the Kirklees Concert Season 2015-16.

Rienzi was the composer’s third opera and his first big success. It is Grand Opera at its grandest, and the extravagant overture, which culminates in a jaunty military march, also includes one of Wagner’s noblest melodies, Rienzi’s Prayer.
