Highlands of Home opens 2018/19 Kirklees Concert Season
Highlands of Home opens the 2018/19 Kirklees Concert Season on 20 September, 7.30pm at Huddersfield Town Hall.
Conductor Garry Walker
Orchestra of Opera North
Violin Jack Libeck
Arnold’s Four Scottish Dances are inspired by folk tunes and feature a melody from one of Scotland’s national treasures Robert Burns. Pure escapism, these light-hearted dances evocatively pull the senses as a scenic panorama unfolds.
With fanfare flourishes, coloured orchestration and lush harmonies, Debussy’s Scottish March on a Popular Theme follows.
Jack Liebeck performs Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1. The dazzling virtuosic passages, the swelling sound of passion and intensity building towards the climactic finale - this concerto showcases the delicate abundant beauty of the string instruments, making the violin sing with every note.
Beautifully capturing each section of his Scottish tour, Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 transports you to the barren landscapes of the heather-strewn hills. Hear the dark and stormy weather met on the bleak hills until finally, the sun erupts on the mountain peaks as the full orchestra is finally unleashed in a radiant third movement.
