Blow away the cobwebs with Beethoven's Fifth
The Orchestra of Opera North's first Kirklees Concert of 2022 offers a blazing start to the New Year on Thursday 27 January.
Conductor and pianist Howard Shelley, who has made acclaimed recordings of all of Beethoven’s works for piano and orchestra with Opera North, returns to Huddersfield Town Hall for a Beethoven extravaganza.
The evening opens with Leonore, the third of the four overtures Beethoven wrote for his only opera, Fidelio, before Shelley steps down from the podium as soloist in the Fourth Piano Concerto.
Closing the concert, the towering Fifth Symphony is probably the best-known work in western classical music. From Disney's Fantasia to Saturday Night Fever, it's part of the fabric of our culture.
