Kim Major-George Artist Printmaker
After graduating from art college in the 70’s, my art career has spanned over 40 years ranging from designing for interiors, freelance surface pattern & illustrating for many high profile clients. Now as an established full time artist / printmaker, I work predominately in collagraph from my studio in Hertfordshire and each year produce a full collection of themed work for my clients and collectors. I have an extensive range on my website and I can create images in colourways to suit a customer's palette. Known for my experimental mark making, whether it be using multiple plates and unusual layered finishes or the maverick way I put together large impact statements, I have now luckily, become popular with some high-profile interior designers.
In 2011, I wrote the technical book on hand-pulled printing: ‘Collagraph – a journey through texture’ and I am currently writing the follow up, due out in 2017. I have been the President of the BBH Print Society since 2010, a group of printmakers who work or live in the three counties of Beds, Bucks & Herts.
Artist Statement :-
My fascination with words and their connection often forms my creative starting point. Ancient philosophy, poetry and Man’s connection to Gaia have been my overriding theme. The creation of complex printing plates can involve melting, burning and dissolving unusual materials. Additional layers of precious metals and crackles often create a surreal other-worldly effect. I hope an uplifted, curious viewer may ask the question - “How interesting - how did she do that ?”
