Painting of the Month
Join art historian and member of the Huddersfield Art Gallery team, Simon Poë to look at a painting each month in more depth. The talks take place in the gallery at 1pm on the first Saturday of the month.
In March Simon will be talking about Roger Fry's 'Flowers in a Vase'. Roger Fry (1866-1934) is not best known as a painter, but as a critic, curator and connoisseur. His ‘Manet and the Post-Impressionists’ exhibition introduced modern art to London in 1910. The Omega Workshops, which he opened in 1913, sold decorative and applied art by impecunious young artists to a discerning clientele. He was a member of the Bloomsbury Group, who (according to Dorothy Parker) ‘lived in squares, painted in circles and loved in triangles’.
