Magnum Walk with entertainment - part of Holmfirth Arts Festival
From Hade Edge we will walk along a ridgeway, with superb views across the valley, towards the quarries at Magnum Bonum, renowned for the quality of the stone - first opened in 1830. By 1861 sixty men were employed and housed on the site in small cottages.
About the event:
Formerly, Magnum was an extensive settlement with a pub, a mission, a jail, a butchers, barbers and more. Work ceased in the 1950's and the human footprint is now barely visible.
What remains is a labyrinth of footpaths, deep overgrown ravines, mysterious rock formations, and a delightful settings for artistic interludes.
Walks Accessibility Grade 2 * Includes some short uphill and downhill sections.
This is a moderate walk of approximately 2.5 hours.
There are some paths within the quarry area that require particular care and attention
