Taking part in Open Studios 2024 at South Mill Arts in Stortford

This September, as part of Herts Visual Arts Open Studio events, Two artists will be exhibiting from the 7th to 29 September (open 10-8pm), each bringing their distinctive creative vision. Amar Devsi and Gabrielle Vickery are painters, but producing very different work.
Amar Devsi established a career as an architect and interior designer. With a deep understanding of design principles and a keen eye for aesthetics, his artistic journey took an exciting turn when he decided to explore the world of abstract art. Drawing upon his architectural background, Devsi finds inspiration in the interplay of form, space, and colour, bringing a unique perspective to his abstract artworks.
Each piece creates a dialogue between the artist, the artwork, and the observer. Through his abstract creations, Devsi strives to evoke emotions, challenge preconceptions, and inspire a sense of exploration – and invites viewers to delve into their own interpretations.
Gabrielle Vickery’s passion has always been firmly rooted in art. She is a professional fine artist, who paints lush florals in oils and acrylics. Her intention is to paint loosely to capture movement and life on the canvas. Gabrielle is also mesmerised by painting portraits; ‘there's something magical about capturing a facial expression with only brushes and paint’. In 2018 Gabrielle opened an art studio in Bishop's Stortford to help teach beginners how to draw and paint. ‘First-time artists are often convinced they won't produce anything worthwhile because they say they have no talent. I say that being creative isn't about having talent - it's about being brave and having a go. And then another…that's the way you get better at art’.

Visitors will not only have the opportunity to view the pieces, but Gabrielle will also be working at her easel at South Mill Arts, to show painting in progress and to talk about her subject matter and methods. Gabrielle will also be running a painting class on Saturday 28th September from 11.30am-12.30pm.
Open Studios promises an experience that will leave art enthusiasts and curious minds inspired and invigorated.
