Sam Massey Quintet

The Sam Massey Quintet is a jazz/funk ensemble comprising some of the South West’s finest jazz musicians, combining an experienced, steaming rhythm section with an energetic, front line blend of trumpet and tenor sax. The band play a mixed programme of jazz standards, ballads and jazz-funk numbers, as well as original compositions by the band.

Bandleader Sam Massey is a fast-emerging talent on the South West jazz scene, studying with renowned British jazz trumpeter Nick Malcolm. He has performed and recorded with some top British jazz artists including Mike & Kate Westbrook and has recently returned from a tour of Greece with funk/soul artists “Hannah Williams and the Affirmations”.

The remaining band members are an exciting mix of very talented musicians, some bandleaders in their own right. Between them, they have performed alongside jazz greats including Clare Teal, Jason Rebello, Mike Lovatt and Art Themen and to name just a few.
