THE ARTS JUST GOT BIGGER at Batley Festival
Featuring
Flame Oz
The Whalley Range All Stars
Dizzy O’Dare
Axial Dance with Urban Canvas
Mr Wilson’s Second Liners
and more…
It is a highlight on the events calendar for Batley folk and now in its 6th year, Batley Festival 2017 offers an amazing line-up of fun-filled performances and events sure to catch the eye of experience seekers from far and wide.
And as usual, it’s all family friendly and free.
Be wowed by giant juggling stilt walkers of Flame Oz with Calvos, who will never drop a ball as they tackle the market cobbles and characters in beautiful circus style costumes.
Come and visit Baba Yaga’s House if you dare. Inspired by Slavic fairy tales, the ramshackle old cottage will be roaming around on old chicken legs and Dizzy O’Dare, a contemporary circus and theatre company, promises to give you a quirky taste of their performance art.
See a tiny town humming with noise and life…. The Whalley Range All Stars present Ye Gods. Church bells ring out, a factory grinds into action, there’s a boozy sing-along in the pub and the local dog’s home can’t stop its inmates barking. But what happens when a rogue storm hits the town?
Festival Favourites Axial Dance and Urban Canvas have created a brand new show for this year. The Chalk Dance is their unique collaboration between pavement art and dance, inspired by their residency on the streets of Batley over the summer.
You’ll be dancing in the streets too with Mr Wilson’s Second Liners, proudly stepping out in uniformed style, they channel the spirit of the 24 hour party people and get audiences dancing wherever they play and paying homage to the diehard days of the Hacienda and 90s club culture.
Plus, watch out for a special preview of The Ruck, a new play about Batley Girls Under 16’s rugby team.
Throughout the day the Market Square and Memorial Gardens will be teeming with a host of unusual hand-made goods and crafts, tasty treats to eat and drink, lots of hands on activities for children as well as their grown ups as the town of Batley celebrates.
