Woven in Film
As part of Woven, Creative Scene will host Ripping Yarns and Kirklees Through Textiles, a series of free pop-up short film screenings at Brigantia in Dewsbury and Holme Bank Mills in Mirfield on 8 and 15 June 2019.
Tickets are free, but you will need to be a member of Brigantia to attend this screening. Membership costs just £3 annually, which you can pay on the day, and entitles you to come along to other free events and activities.
Ripping Yarns is a series of short tales from the Kirklees textile trade by Alistair Macdonald. The films explore the innovative businesses in Kirklees who are pioneering practices such as recycling unwanted clothes in order to generate electricity, using digital technology to push the boundaries of textile design and recycling denim to soundproof cars.
Kirklees Through Textiles, a cornucopia of local historic films curated by Chris Squire, will follow Ripping Yarns. The short films from the 1900s to present day, include rare footage of workers leaving a Dewsbury mill at the beginning of the 20th century and the forgotten story of Schofield and Smith’s mill in Slaithwaite (and the artist who salvaged material from it after it burned down!).
