Violinist, Giffords Circus
Gifford's Circus are seeking musicians for the 2017 season.
We are a travelling circus, performing around the greens and parks of the Cotswolds and West of England to over 100,000 people a year. The show, directed by Cal McCrystal, combines circus and theatre with a strong musical element.
This year’s tour, ANY PORT IN A STORM, is (loosely) Baroque-inspired..
We will be playing and devising a mix of both original and classical music.
We are especially looking for violinists, but other melody instrumentalists are welcome to apply. A second study wind instrument would be especially desirable for string players.
You would need the ability to improvise, sight read and be willing to have a musical input into the development of the score during rehearsals. Any singing ability would be welcome.
You will be an integral part of the whole show; an energetic and enthusiastic approach to performance is a must.
The auditions will be in London early February. Please bring 2-3 contrasting pieces, and be prepared to improvise or sight-read at the auditions.
The season will be from mid-April til mid of September, including 4 weeks rehearsals at full pay. You will be performing in an international troupe of jugglers, acrobats, horses, aerialists, puppets, clowns and chickens in a tent you have helped put up yourself. Accommodation provided in the form of a vintage circus wagon! This is hard work, but incredibly rewarding.
