Director, The Leach Pottery
irector
The Leach Pottery, St Ives, Cornwall
Salary up to £45,000 per annum
The Leach Pottery is considered by many to be the birthplace of British studio pottery. One of the great figures of 20thcentury art, Bernard Leach, played a crucial pioneering role in creating an identity for artist potters across the world. The recently restored Leach Pottery site includes a new museum, created to celebrate the life, work, influences and legacy of Bernard Leach. Exhibition, gallery and shop space provide regular shows throughout the year showcasing work by leading regional, national and international studio potters.
We are now looking for a visionary director with the flair and skills required to build on the work that has been undertaken to develop the Leach ‘brand’ locally, nationally and internationally.
You will be responsible for delivering the business plan, fundraising and for the running of a viable organisation. You will provide creative leadership for the Leach Pottery as a museum, gallery and visitor attraction and shape and oversee all aspects of the Pottery’s creative and cultural programmes.
The Leach Pottery is currently an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation. The Director will play a vital role in the discussions around the continuation of NPO status from 2017 to support the revenue stream of the organisation.
You will have significant experience at the forefront of an arts/heritage/cultural organisation and strong business development skills. Experience of leading effective relationships with Arts Council England, Heritage Lottery Fund and/or similar national funding bodies is vital.
