Artist Opportunity: A New Portrait for Bath, The Holburne Museum
The Holburne Museum is looking for six local artists as part of a funded project inspired by a Thomas Lawrence study. Each artist will create a piece of work in response to 6th form students at an allocated school. The artists will make one visit to the school where they will use the painting to initiate discussion with the pupils on their feelings about leaving school. The artist will then create a piece of artwork in response to the pupils, which will be displayed in the Brownsword Gallery at the Holburne Museum in June 2017. Artists will be offered a training session at the Museum and will be provided with a high quality reproduction of the painting to use during their school visit and throughout the duration of the project. Artists working in any media will be considered.
The work will be displayed in the Brownsword Gallery at the Holburne Museum from Friday 30 June (early evening PV) until Sunday 2 July (inclusive) As the work will be displayed in a gallery of 18th Century portraiture, there are specific requirements regarding scale, media and display; guidelines will be given at the training ·Six chosen artists will each be allocated a sixth form in a local school (state or independent). The artists will make one visit to the school where they will use the painting to initiate discussion with the pupils on their feelings about leaving school. Each artist will be lent a canvas reproduction of the painting, audio recording equipment and a camera for their school visit.
