ABOUT THE SITE
The site is free to use and you can join in one of two distinct ways – see the join in page for details.
At its heart is a user driven creative and cultural directory, members with profiles can launch events, news and jobs items. These are bundled up weekly and sent out to everyone who has registered at the site.
Elsewhere you will find information about funding and career development as well as the creative space agency where you can list or appeal for space to work, rehearse or exhibit.
If you are interested in the sites back story check out the history page.
FAQ’S
Q: What’s the purpose of the site?
At its purest the website is a place for creative producers to advertise and showcase their creativity to each other and to creative and cultural consumers.
Q: What’s so different about this site?
Well all the content in events, news and jobs is user generated and so it depends up to you to submit content – the majority of which goes live immediately
Q: What else is the site doing?
Well there are lots of static pages including funding, the creative space agency information around careers in the sector. These pages are updated by the CT team regularly – if you have anything you’d like to see on these pages then email in your suggestions.
Q; Describe the site in a word?
‘Connectivity’
Q: How do I join the network?
First click ‘Join network’ now you have two options. You can join as a friend of the site which means you will receive the weekly newsletter or you can set up your own directory page and launch events and other items into the site all of which make up the newsletter that goes to everyone. When you have filled in your form you will receive an email which has a link inside it that activates your directory page once clicked – if you don’t receive it first check your junk mail box, failing that contact us.
Q: What the newsletter all about?
Each week the top rated items are bundled up and sent out to everyone in a beautiful newsletter, recipients of the newsletter can then forward it to their contacts and friends. Click the 'join us' page to view a recent example.
Q: How do I upload and event/news item etc
First register at the site and set up a profile.
Then go to’ my creative space’ and click ‘edit my profile content’. From here it’s easy to add all sorts of items to your profile and launch news and events and job items. Just remember to delete any items when they are out of date.
Q: Is anyone looking at the site?
In a word ‘yes’ we have just added a widget so you can see how many people are viewing your content. On your ‘my creative space’ page there is now a button you can click above ‘play pong’ which shows you how many page views your profile has had.
If you go to ‘edit my profile content’ and click news/events items you have launched you can see at the foot of each item how many views they have had.
Q: What relevancy all about?
Nice question! Relevancy is how we order and list items. Each profile and item has a relevancy that is a reflection of different parameters each with different weightings, in short the more ‘activity’ an item generates the higher its relevancy and the higher it appears in searches. The system is clever and it also knows its users so what one user see’s at the top of listings might differ from another user according to the categories clicked when their profile was set up and where they are geographically.
Q:How do I leave comments and stars for people?
You will have to register at the site.
When you have registered and logged in you can leave comments and stars for an item (picture/video/news/event/job etc) by simply adding it in the section provided at the foot of the item. If you want to leave a comment or review for a Person Business or Place in the directory first click ‘add contact’ on their page. Then go to your ‘access my messenger’ which you will find in ‘my creative space’ the contact will have been added to your contacts list and you can now click ‘submit review’ and write something and leave a star! The more you do this the more likely it is that people will return the favour!
Once a contact has been added you can chose to organise them as a ‘friend’ or ‘contact’ the difference being that visitors to the site can see your friends on your directory page but not your contacts.
Q: How do I send people a message?
You can either click ‘contact’ on their page. Or go to your messenger in ‘my creative space’. The recipient will receive a message telling them you have sent them a message which they can pick up at the site.
Q: I’m not from Torbay can I join in the fun?
In three words ‘YES YOU CAN’ we have built the site so anyone from anywhere from Torbay to Timbuktu can join and set up a page. The further you are from Torbay the less relevancy you’ll have though, why not lobby your local arts and culture providers to see if they’d like to have a version of the site for themselves when you will come top of the searches, be able to write the content for your static pages and generate a local newsletter for your local residents and visitors to the area! Contact us for details of how we can do this at a fraction of the original build cost.
