Yorkshire Dance: Freelance Assistant Dance Artist

Yorkshire Dance is looking to recruit 4 freelance dance artists to work as part of ‘In Mature Company’ delivering creative dance session in care homes. The programme will use Dementia Care Mapping as a research tool to better understand the impact of the sessions

The programme works in partnership with care homes across Leeds to deliver specialised creative sessions for residents with dementia. Sessions use movement, music, touch and non-verbal communication to create moments of social connections and to promote physical activity and wellbeing.

The project will be delivered through a range of sessions including small group sessions and larger group sessions.

Artists will work in teams of 3 (one lead dance artist, one assistant dance artist and one musician) to lead 20 weeks of in person care home sessions. There will also be opportunities to support Zoom sessions and care staff training.

About the project

In Mature Company was established in 2018 to work with care homes around Leeds using dance and music to reduce loneliness and isolation for residents living with dementia.

The programme looks specifically at the impact of touch and uses Dementia Care Mapping as a research tool to better understand the impact of the sessions. The artist team deliver a range of creative sessions including weekly group sessions and online dance sessions.

Originally funded by Leeds Older People’s Forum’s Time to Shine programme, In Mature Company has recently received NHS funding for the next 3 years.

Rates of pay inclusive of planning time (all rates of pay include VAT where applicable):

Assistant Artist: 75 p/w or 1500 over the 20 weeks.

Travel: equivalent to 5 per session

Support: 10 x mentoring/reflective sessions £10 per session
