Writing for Artists online course

Artworks is running a Writing for Artists course aimed at artists who wish to build their skills and confidence with writing.

Dates: 11 May to 4 June
Days & Times: Thursday 1-2pm

Writing often lies at the outer edge of a visual artist’s comfort zone. However words are a rich and dynamic medium through which to explore and express creativity, as well as necessary to communicate about your practice and gain opportunities. Over 4 weeks online you will cover a range of exercises and activities to help build a stronger relationship with words for the creative and practical purposes of the artist.

You will be shown how to use words to describe, see, paint and explain. You will experiment with journalling, note-taking, free writing and poetry.

Working with your own visual work and one another, you will uncover and draw on the skills and knowledge you already have - visual perception and your core understanding of your own work. You will then put such insights into words - words in your own voice - words that are also clear and compelling to others.

By the end of the course you will be able to use words more confidently to articulate your artistic practice in an authentic way. You will also have experienced writing as an exciting medium that can support, add to and enrich your creative process.
