Light, Art Cities Symposium: The impact of Light Festivals on Cities & its Residents

The Light Up the North Network & Light Night Leeds invites you to an international symposium on Friday 7 October 2016 - Light, Art, Cities. The 2016 international symposium will be hosted by Leeds and will be over the Light Night Leeds festival, allowing delegates to attend the event and enjoy a light festival in progress.

The event will be at The Carriageworks Theatre, Millennium Square on the Friday, with fringe activities including guided tours, networking sessions and funding seminars on Thursday evening and Saturday morning. We are inviting artists, organisations, venues, producers, universities, the commercial sector and local authorities from the UK, Europe and beyond.

The symposium will include keynote speakers from light artists, festivals producers and the commercial sector from the UK and across Europe. The programme will be divided into 4 themes: place, artist, audience and sustainability. This event is the opportunity to harness and develop what is already being delivered across the globe and how we can enhance the experience for artist, audience and their city.

The genesis of the event follows on from visits to other festivals and conferences by the LUTN consortium and the desire to support the growing programme of activities in the UK and internationally.

The key aims of Light, Arts Cities are to:
• Provide inspiring content that we can share with the whole sector
• Provoke and examine new thinking
• Generate new ideas for collaboration and connection
• Provide networking opportunities and a space and a time to re-examine our relationship with the light festivals
• Inspire and offer leadership examples by providing provocation, debate and keynote challenges
The Light Up the North Network include: Blackpool; Illuminating York; Light Up Lancaster; Durham Lumiere; Enchanted Parks, Gateshead; Quay Culture, Salford; and Light Night, Leeds.
